A ‘Rigged’ Election

Written by: Grace

On Sunday, the 16th of October, just a few days ago, new statements directly from Mr. Trump himself, have been going viral as he claims repeatedly that the presidential election is being ‘rigged’.

“This Election is being rigged by the media, in a coordinated effort with the Clinton campaign, by putting stories that never happened into the news!” he claimed in a tweet, on the morning of the Sunday.

It has not been very common for such accusations to come about, especially when those accusations are made by a major-party nominee of a US presidential election. Not only have his recent actions and statements surprised the media, his allegations simply contain no evidence at all. The thought of rigged and unreliable election results has never occurred in modern time elections, particularly when that idea has come from a candidate himself.

Donald Trump claims in the statement above that the media is closely involved with the ‘rigged’ elections, declaring that the Clinton campaign also has a lot to do with the issue. Many believe that Mr. Trump’s accusations were irrational and have increased the risk of a dangerous election day by a lot.

“That’s going to create a disturbance and, played out in polling places across the country, it has the potential to destabilize the election,” claimed a Republican election lawyer, Chris Ashby.

Associated with the reaction of the current President; Mr. Obama certainly disapproves of Trump’s actions.

“You start whining before the game’s even over?” said the President during a news conference on Tuesday, the 18th of October. Obama also stated that Mr. Trump’s claims, that are based on no facts at all, could jeopardise the election and bring along a few unwanted issues.
